I have always refrained from treading a tendentious territory- the debate between Muslims and Ex-Muslims, partly because of my ambivalent ideology and partly because of the unsolicited ad hominem attacks that one has to endure. I was born in a religious family and my mother till this day remains devoutly religious. During my formative years I displayed the inquisitiveness of a normal child and asked awkward questions regarding creator, creation and religion, which was unsurprisingly censured with a fervor which can only be found in religious piety. I grew up imbibing religious practices from homilies issued by elders and the clergy. The religious belief inside me also stemmed from greed to excel in life; a belief that propitiating a personal God might help you achieve goals. The skeptic inside me made cameo appearances only to be coerced into comatose by the burdens of wishes and expectations.

Then, college happened; it was, literally, a microcosm of modern India…
